I’m back with an unboxing, first impressions and review of the Fear of God Essentials Knit Hoodie. The Essentials collection is the more affordable range in Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear of God brand - although it’s still quite pricey. The Essentials collection is unpretentious luxury streetwear that aims to be stripped back and minimalistic in design. Jerry Lorenzo has taken basic pieces and elevated them to the next level. The whole collection is fashionable without trying too hard. It’s a unisex collection so there isn’t much difference between the men’s and women’s sizing. Items run from XXS-XXL.
This season’s collection launched earlier this month and it’s bursting with autumnal hues. It has all the streetwear and loungewear staples you need in your autumn/winter wardrobe. Think jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts, polos, sweatpants and more. The Essentials collection really is essential.
Price & Shipping Costs
I recommend looking around before buying anything from the Essentials collection as prices vary from site to site. However, you need to be savvy as items sell out fast. On the Fear of God website, I would’ve paid more for the hoodie when shipping costs are included. It was also the same on Pacsun and End Clothing. On SSENSE, this hoodie is slightly cheaper, so if you want the knitted hoodie, SSENSE is the place to go. The shipping was via DHL and I had the option of choosing how I wanted my parcel to be delivered. The shipping is £15 which seems a bit OTT but it’s express delivery which takes four days to arrive.
Packaging
The hoodie is inside a branded resealable zip lock pouch, which is a nice touch and shows the quality and attention to detail.
The Hoodie
The Fear of God Essentials collection runs in an oversized fit so it’s advisable to go one size down from your usual size if you don’t want it to be too oversized or two sizes down for a more fitted style. With hoodies and sweatshirts, I usually wear medium so I sized down as advised and chose the small. For reference, I'm 5’0 and the small is still oversized - but not too oversized. The length is just right. This hoodie is available in three autumnal colours; brown, amber and pistachio. I like all the colours but I chose pistachio because it will add a pop of colour to my wardrobe without being too out there. I can style it in so many different ways.
Knitted tops can be scratchy and uncomfortable to wear but this hoodie is so warm and comfortable. It’s a welcome addition to my wardrobe and it’s a great alternative to a jumper.
Final thoughts
So is this hoodie worth it or is it overrated? It’s definitely worth it. If you need a new hoodie then this is a great investment piece. You're getting two items for the price of one - a jumper and a hoodie. Let’s just hope it doesn’t start to bobble after a few washes.
