It’s been a hot minute since my last blog post but I’m back with a first impressions and review of Space NK’s birthday gift. If you sign up to Space NK’s loyalty programme, you’ll receive an N.Dulge loyalty card in the post. Register your card on the Space NK website in order to manage your account and keep track of your N.Dulge points. If you don’t have a Space NK loyalty card, I highly recommend getting one. The registration process is so easy – it’s free and it can be done online. Not only will you get discounts, exclusive offers and invites to events, you’ll also receive a birthday treat every year if you include your birthday in your account information. This means that at the start of your birthday month, you’ll receive an email from Space NK inviting you to purchase your free birthday gift. It can either be purchased online (which is great given that some parts of the UK are facing tighter lockdown restrictions as a result of the coronavirus pandemic) or in-store. Side note; if you choose to order online, you’ll need to add an item(s) to your basket before adding your unique birthday code in the promo code box on the Space NK website, in order to redeem your free birthday gift. So use this opportunity to stock up on some new makeup and skincare products. However, if you’d prefer to redeem the gift in-store, all you have to do is show a beauty adviser the email and your N.Dulge card. As I chose to order online, I added a foundation I’d been wanting to try to my basket and saw a pop-up notification which said that if I spent another £8, I’d get free delivery. Luckily, it wasn’t a case of me needing to add an item that I didn’t need to my basket in order to avoid paying for delivery costs, as is sometimes the case with online shopping. I added a travel-sized primer and qualified for free delivery. At the checkout, I was invited to select 3 free sample size skincare products and they will be reviewed in another blog post.
Delivery Packaging
I expected to see Space NK branding on the exterior of the packaging, but it was a plain cardboard box. Perhaps less is more. However, I was impressed with the attention to detail once I’d opened the box. As the foundation I ordered was in a glass bottle, I was worried it might be smashed during transportation. Sounds a bit OTT but it does happen. When I opened the box, I was greeted with a layer of bubble wrap. Underneath was the birthday gift, foundation and primer. Underneath that was another layer of bubble wrap. And finally, underneath this second layer of bubble wrap, were three sample-sized skincare products and an invoice outlining the items I ordered. I like how the products had been arranged and how two layers of bubble wrap were used to prevent any breakages.
Birthday Gift Packaging
The birthday gift came in a cute little bag. It’s got a loop fastening closure which I found to be a unique touch. Inside, there was a card inviting me for a makeup or skincare consultation and I’ll definitely be following up on that invite… as soon as social distancing measures are relaxed.
VenEffect Anti-Aging Lip Treatment
Developed by women for women, this anti-ageing paraben-free and fragrance-free plumping lip treatment aims to moisturise, soften and give the lips a youthful glow… and we have the advanced phytoestrogens to thank for this. It also claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which can cause lipstick to feather. It’s hypoallergenic; which means it isn’t harmful and it’s suitable for sensitive skin.
I used this product as a lip balm to see what it would be like. After application, my lips were hydrated and moisturised - so it’s a good product to use to prevent dry and chapped lips. I did have to touch up my application, but I guess you could say the same for any lip product. Although I didn’t apply it before going to sleep, I noticed that my lips still felt moisturised in the morning; which probably means this lip treatment also works overnight and it can be incorporated into your nighttime skincare routine.
I like how the lip treatment is packaged. The tube packaging means you don’t need to apply the product with your fingers, which can be unhygienic. It can also fit in the smallest of bags, meaning that it won’t look out of place in a Jacquemus Le Chiquito.
Clark’s Botanicals Soothing Marine Cream
Clark’s Botanicals prides itself on using natural ingredients to create skincare products. Their products are vegan and cruelty-free. You can read the moving and inspiring story about the creation of Clark’s Botanicals on their website.
This cream contains seven main ingredients – dehydrated algae microspheres help to hydrate, glycolic acid to exfoliate, antecollagen reduces the appearance of fine lines, glucosamine HCL for protection against free radicals and jasmine, coffee extract and yeast work together to nourish, soothe and calm the skin. It can be used during your morning and evening skincare routine, so it’s versatile – you don’t need to buy separate creams for your morning and evening skincare routine respectively. Its two creams in one. I used this cream after cleansing my face as recommended. I dotted the cream on my forehead, chin, nose and cheeks and massaged it into my skin. The cream has a luminous finish, which creates a healthy-looking glow. It also rejuvenated my skin by brightening up my under eye areas. Clark’s Botanicals didn’t specify which skin type this cream is marketed for. It is for dry skin? Oily? Combination? I have combination/oily skin and this cream worked well.
Briogeo Scalp Revival + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo
This shampoo is vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free and it doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals, silicones, parabens, phthalates, DEA or artificial dyes. This shampoo aims to combat dry, flaky and itchy scalp. It has four key ingredients; Bintochan charcoal for detoxifying the hair and scalp, coconut oil which acts as a moisturiser, peppermint oil to soothe an itchy scalp and tea tree oil to minimise a flaky scalp. I like that this shampoo is suitable for all hair types. I can’t comment on wether it helps to relieve flakiness as it’s not something I’ve experienced. However, it did relieve dryness. The tea tree fragrance was long lasting and gave my hair a nice smell. The sample size of this product is perfect and I will get a lot of uses out of this shampoo.
Final Thoughts
I loved all the products in this gift bag and it was nice to receive products I have never tried before.
Until next time,
